Father John Hovington

I have been Parish Priest of St Peter's since 1997 and in 2009 I was asked by Bishop Brian Noble to take over responsibility also for Holy Name Parish.

Since the presbytery of Holy Name was on the site of the Church, I was asked to make that my home. When I first took over the two parishes it became clear that both parish communities had wondered and fretted about their future viability. My appointment helped calm those fears and the two communities have worked extremely well to cope with the inevitable difficulties of changes to Mass times and to having one priest rather than the two. I must thank the parishioners for their great generosity and hard work in making the two parishes into one coherent community. People now see themselves not as St Peters or Holy Name but as parishioners of St Peter's and Holy Name.
